To me Mieke's work is tremendous. It calls to mind Lucien Freud's figures and portraits, and also Sarah Lucas. She appears driven to record people often on the margins of society and to give them dignity and recognition as is the right of all of us. Her "technique" is immediate and honest. I feel humbled when I look at her work.
